NYC Med School Employee Alleges Retaliation, Pay Cut

On Thursday, Dr. Ann Marie Beddoe filed a action suit against the defendant Mount Sinai Health System, Inc., Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Dr. Dennis S. Charney. The plaintiff is claiming that she had been discriminated upon by the defendants.

The defendant “is a domestic not-for-profit corporation, duly organized and existing under the laws of New York.” While the plaintiff was an employee of the defendant at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

The complaint states that “Mount Sinai’s decision to cut Beddoe’s salary has significantly and directly harmed her. So has its refusal to consider her for internal promotions, including by depriving her of opportunities she could use to secure external appointments.”

These claims come after the plaintiff had allegedly gone through the proper channels to voice her grievances about another colleague who had been appointed to a position he was not qualified for.

After a candidate was chosen for the position, he was then found to have mistreated many of her female colleagues, per the complaint. which prompted an investigation committee to see if the employee should remain after such allegation.

After the colleague under investigation decided to step down, the defendant allegedly retaliated in different fashions against the plaintiff, including by not giving a promotion to the plaintiff and lowering their pay. Her total compensation was allegedly lowered by $100,000, court documents say.

The defendant is facing one count of retaliation.

The plaintiff is being represented by McAllister Olivarius.
